Aya shared her heart

The Last Petal Of A Sakura Diary.

CHAPTER 1.

As seagulls started to settle down in their cozy nests, the sun sets over the horizon. With warm weather and the soothing sounds of waves crashing onto the rocks, Franchesa sat alone, trapped in a world of her own, writing in that Sakura diary of hers. She was so engrossed in writing her entry that she did not even hear the footsteps of her dear friend Andrew approaching her. She quickly closed her diary before Andrew had any chance to have a glance. They sat together chatting, as the sun slowly sinks into the cotton candy clouds. This would be the last day that they could spent their time together as they may not be able to see each other again. Graduation day was in twenty-four hours. All they could see now was the beautiful shades of red and yellow in the sky, left behind by the sun. While walking home, he wonders what Franchesa writes in that Sakura diary of hers. If she would not show him, then he was quite sure that she does not show anyone else. Some secrets are better left unknown.

13th April 2006,

Today was the last day I could spend my day with Andrew as best friends. I have a strong feeling that nothing would be the same once we graduate tomorrow. How I wish we could be friends till the end. But I guess maybe that’s not quite possible am I right? Well, I guess wishes and dreams are meant to be shattered. Till here tonight. Getting ready for tomorrow.

Love, Franchesa.

CHAPTER 2.

It was the big day for the graduating seniors. Most of them were a real nervous wreck. Some were being real Drama Queens and Barbie dolls. They needed to be ‘perfect’ for just a few hours. One broken nail and you could hear them screaming their lungs out half a mile away. Two hours until they graduated, to be separated with all their friends and to live separate lives. Finally, the cloud of tension in the air was replaced with smiles, laughter and bittersweet memories. Well, bitter for the Barbies and sweet for the all the other people present. Let’s just say someone had gum spat into her hair and she went into a fit. When the other Barbies tried to help out, they tripped, fell, stuck their wavy blond hair together with the piece of gum, got unwanted pictures of them taken and ran out of the school screaming. Everyone, whose names were called out, was filled with overflowing joy as it meant that they had just graduated. They all attended the graduation party which was held not far from the beach. While everyone was spending their last moments and cherishing it together, Franchesa was nowhere to be seen. But Andrew knew just where she was.

Transported to a world of her own and writing in the dark, fireflies near the bushes were her only source of light. Gazing up to the dark sky filled with diamond like stars, she enjoyed the cool breeze brushing against her face. Andrew creped up to her, hoping to catch a glimpse of what she was writing. But she had already noticed he was there and swiftly closed her diary, giving him a cheeky grin. Away from all the blasting loud music, they were alone and the sound of crashing waves and melodies made by crickets were the only music to their ears. Franchesa was awfully quiet and Andrew knew that something was bothering her. Stunned but at the same time glad, she confesses to him what was on that wondering mind of hers. The fact was she was afraid to lose him, that after this day their friendship would not be the same and that one day, she would be replaced. He stops her, and staring deeply into her eyes he replied to her that she was being to negative. After waiting so many years for their friendship to blossom to what it was now, the last thing he would do was to replace her. Touched with Andrew’s words, her face was brightened. His words gave hope to their friendship once again.

Daniel and Natalie came along, laughing their hearts out. The four of them decided to commemorate this wonderful day of theirs and Daniel had the perfect idea. Armed with a penknife, he started carving his initials onto a nearby coconut tree. And with that, the rest followed. The air was filled with nothing but pure happiness and no regrets that night.

14th April 2006,

An amazing day for us seniors. I just got back from the party and brought home some amazing never to forget memories. My doubt of me and Andrew’s friendship ending was cleared by his touching words of promise. My heart feels light and I feel so free right now.

Love, Franchesa.

CHAPTER 3.

It was spring in the lovely country of Japan, and the country was raining with eye catching pink petals of the Sakura trees. But that was in Japan. Things were not much of a difference here in Florida. Three long months had already gone by, and the only friends whom she had any contact with were Daniel, Natalie and Andrew. It had been the worst moments of her life as she found out that she was diagnosed with cancer and she had been hospitalized all this while. To make matters worse, Andrew had stopped visiting her. Day by day, she would await his call, the calls that always cheered her up, but to no avail. Daniel and Natalie visited her daily with enjoyable stories to share from their daily lives. Even with that, they can see the sadness in her eyes and the disappointment in her voice as she spoke. Andrew was indeed breaking his promise to her. They would tell her that Andrew was busy and could not make calls during working hours. But she knew that they were hiding the real truth from her. She could not help but feel as though she was being erased from Andrew’s mind as the days passed. And that was where Daniel unintentionally spilled the beans. Frantically, Natalie tried her best to cover it up with a white lie, but Franchesa just saw right through her. As tension fills the air, the duo had to cough out the truth to Franchesa. For the past few weeks, when Andrew did not call or visit her, he was out dating a girl known to them as Andrea. When they were still explaining to her the situation, crystal clear tears rolled down from her emerald green eyes onto her rosy cheeks. She wanted to know more but her heart could not bear with it. Her breath tightened, her vision was getting blur and thus, she passed out.

When she came to, she felt as though her whole world had collapsed on her. She could barely move an inch but she knew that this was the last time she was ever going to do anything for herself or anyone.

12th July 2006 11:57pm,

This would be my last entry. I lived my life to the fullest and met irreplaceable friends. The memories we once had, were like film playing without sound. You made a promise, to never forget me and that we would be friends till the end. But it seems that Andrea is more important than I am to you. I thank you for all the comforts and memories that you gave me. Friends and family, don’t forget, I have no regrets and I shall have my last smile.

Love, Franchesa

13th July 2006 12am.

And with that she closed her diary. Feeling weak, she shut her eyes. Doing just that she remembered the past and all her memories. Soon, she saw herself standing under a fully blossomed Sakura tree, with the petals dancing gracefully. She smiled and took her last breath as the last petal landed on her diary.

CHAPTER 4.

Sadness and devastation roams around the cold air. It was a perfect day for a funeral. Daniel and Natalie went to break the news to Andrew, only to find him having such a nice time with Andrea. Frustrated, Daniel yelled at him telling him how happy he could be when Franchesa was gone and that she meant nothing to him anymore. Daniel’s eyes were filled with tears as he passed Andrew the last memory of Franchesa, her Sakura diary along with a letter written specially for him. Andrew’s face lost its colour and his heart was racing. Was Franchesa really gone or were his friends just pulling his leg? No, he realized that she really was gone. He could not even bring himself to open her diary. It was the same diary he had given her two years ago on this very date. And it was that one diary that she wrote her secrets and feelings in. His heart felt heavy and he felt as if he was going to choke from all the tears he was holding in. His hands felt numb and as he started reading her first entry, it started to rain. As tiny droplets of rain gently slides down the window, tears began to roll down Andrew’s devastated face.

He read page by page and realized that all those memories that they once shared had all faded away. As soon as he got to the final entry, he remembered last moment they shared on the beach together. He closed the diary, tears flowing faster than a raging waterfall. His once hazel brown eyes had turned red and puffy from all the tears that he shed. Eternity Inn Cemetery was where Franchesa was set to rest. He walked towards her tombstone in the cold rain alone. Engraved on it was ‘She died with no regrets and with a smile’. He stood there, hoping that she would forgive him for all his wrong doings. He regretted neglecting her and he wished that if he could turn back time, he would rather lose his girl than his precious friend. Wishing she was here with him, he wept silently in the rain where no one could see his tears as the flowers on her grave were drowned in both the rain, and his tears.
